ATC (Coach’s Prep Course)
OVERVIEW
This programme has been put together for all individuals wishing to move forward with CrossFit Ickenham, becoming more involved in the business from a coaching perspective. After completing gf the programme it is important to remember that there is not a guarantee of a coaching role. The programme will run over six weeks, each week containing both theory as well as practical work.
Week 1: What is CrossFit? Understanding what a coach’s role in a class is, Postural and Movement Workshop, Health & Safety Procedures.
Week 2: The importance of knowing what you are looking at, Scaling and Adaptation, Olympic Weightlifting Workshop.
Week 3: Mechanic, consistency, and intensity, What makes a good warm-up?, Gymnastics Workshop.
Week 4: Session Planning, Running / Rower / Bike / ERG Workshop.
Week 5: Nine Foundational Movement, Types of cues, and the right time use them, Programming five days of workouts for a week of CrossFit.
Week 6: Nutrition, What comes next?
Nothing is as simple turning up, coaching, and leaving. The way CrossFit Ickenham operates is based upon a culture committed to our Vales, Vision, and Mission. In our Health and safety procedures and our business processes, that must be followed to ensure we operate effectively to the highest possible professional standards.
REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS
Arrive to class observations, meetings, and group sessions on time. On time means ‘prepared and ready to go’ before the allotted time.
Complete assignments in a timely manner. Let your mentor know if you need an extension on any part of the programme.
Ask questions when you have them rather than waiting until the last minute, communication is our friend!
Recommended: subscribe to the CrossFit Email of the Day via the CrossFit Journal.
Explore topics outside of those shared within this program. You will likely find topics that interest you, and we encourage you to delve deeper into them.
Schedule meetings with us as often as you like to help you work through this ATC (Coach’s Prep Course).
This programme does not replace the CrossFit Level 1 Certification, it is a development from, and an introduction to the methods and processes in practice at CrossFit Ickenham. We strongly advise that the CrossFit Level 1 Certification is completed prior to beginning this programme. If not, it will require to be completed prior to being able to coach independently at CrossFit Ickenham. If you have not completed the CrossFit Level 1 Certification, start reading the course content from the ‘CrossFit Level 1 Training Guide’.
There is a business requirement that all coaches hold a ‘First Aid at Work’ Certification. This is to be completed, and proof supplied before being able to coach independently at CrossFit Ickenham.
It is also a requirement that prior to coaching you must have an insurance policy in place. These can be sourced through several companies; however, we suggest Protectivity Insurance. This is to be completed, and proof supplied before being able to coach independently at CrossFit Ickenham
THE CROSSFIT ICKENHAM WAY
VALUES, VISION AND MISSION
We need direction to grow and develop as a company. To help define our direction we need to understand who we are and what we want to achieve. This understanding of how we do things, together with why we do them come together to guide us each day in running CrossFit Ickenham.
VALUES
Our values are an agreed set of standards we have placed upon ourselves. In the actions we carry out each day within our business activities. They will also spill over into our personal lives and instil values into our private life.
These values are the foundation of every decision and action we take. They create trust and belief in each other. This will shine through in our relationships with our clients and how we help them achieve their goals.
There is no hierarchy to our values. Each is as important as the other in how we view what we do. In essence, you cannot perform your role without all values being intrinsically entwined into every interaction or process:
Attention to detail (we follow processes, both client and business facing).
Pro-active (opportunities to improve and development must be grasped fully with both hands).
Transparency (in our relationships as staff and towards our clients).
Studious (continual learning and development, both technical and emotional).
Enjoy your role (have pride and passion from the smallest detail to the big picture).
VISION
Our vision as CrossFit Ickenham is not defined by ‘what’ we say we do; it’s defined by how we say ‘why’ we do it. It is built upon our values and excels in the realisation of a passion, a dream to provide something so unique it cannot be matched by any other health and fitness business.
“To be the go-to gym, epitomising the ultimate in weight management and physical health and fitness conditioning through an unparalleled strength from within its community.”
MISSION
The mission is our day-to-day objective. It is what we strive for in every member interaction, every business process, and every personal behaviour to make CrossFit Ickenham the only choice.
“Give everyone the opportunity to achieve weight loss, improve strength and general health and fitness from within a community that is passionate, determined and supportive of everyone to ensure their success.”
IMPLIMENTATION
If fully employed, then you are issued with full contract and job description. If contract, then it is still important that professionally you are carrying out your role as required.
In addition to all the relevant processes for health and safety and operations procedures it is required that the document, ‘CFI-2/005 Staff Handbook’ found in the ‘CFI – Operations Manual’ is read and adhered to by all members of staff, always.
